workshop RENAISSANCE LANDSCAPE ART DEMYSTIFIED | silverpoint, egg tempera & optics

artist MARK BEACHELL

location LANGCLIFFE HALL, nr. SETTLE, THE YORKSHIRE DALES

event Would you like to join us for a new, bespoke and enriching workshop to enhance your artistic skills by exploring techniques and mediums used by Renaissance artists?

Refine your ability to select and interpret what you see through a range of framing and focusing equipment, including the Camera Obscura, Camera Lucida and Thumbnail Viewfinders.

Understand how to accurately record observed flora, foliage, and landscape elements using the rarely taught and little understood techniques of drawing in silverpoint and painting with egg tempera.

Create, with guidance and support from experienced artist tutor, Mark Beachell, your own drawing and painting to take home,

venue The workshop is set in the grounds of Langcliffe Hall, a grade II listed Jacobean manor house nestled in the timeless and dramatic hills of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Boasting formal gardens, wildflower meadows, woodlands, and a walled garden with productive organic kitchen and medicinal borders, there is ample inspiration. Dating back to 1602, Langcliffe Hall has remained under the stewardship of the same family for over four centuries. Currently managed by Charlotte and Mark, the house continues to serve as a family home rich in history.

**Please note: Reception refreshments and Tea Bar will be in the Jacobean Dining Room of the main house and the Art Workshop will take place in the Victorian Garden Studio with Terrace. Lunch will either be served in the Jacobean Dining Room or Al Fresco on the lawn. Workshop guests will have full access to the Hall’s expansive grounds.

The combination of expert artist tutor, historic venue, and quintessential Yorkshire Dales backdrop promises to be a hugely enjoyable, informative and immersive experience.
